Review and listing guidelines
Last updated: 30 September 2026
GoNeed only works if what people read on it is true and useful. These are the standards we hold reviews and listings to, and what happens when they are not met.
Writing a review
Do
- Write about your own, first-hand experience with this business.
- Be specific: what you bought or used, and what was good or not.
- Be fair. A calm account of a bad experience helps more than anger.
- Give the rating you really mean, from one to five stars.
Do not
- Review a business you own, work for, compete with, or are related to.
- Post a review in return for money, a discount or any other reward.
- Include private details such as phone numbers, addresses of individuals, or staff surnames.
- Use threats, hate speech, or abuse aimed at a person or group.
- Advertise, post links, or repeat the same text on several listings.
Each person can review a business once. A review is about the business, not about something that happened elsewhere or a political or personal argument.
How moderation works
Every review is read by a moderator before it appears. We do not remove reviews because they are negative, and businesses cannot pay to have reviews hidden or changed. If a review is not published, you can write a new one that follows these guidelines.
Anyone can use the Report button under a review. A moderator looks at each report and either leaves the review, removes it, or asks for it to be rewritten. Accounts that repeatedly break these guidelines, or that post fake reviews, are suspended.
If you run the business
You can reply publicly to any review from your dashboard. Keep replies courteous and to the point, thank people who take the time to write, and do not disclose a customer’s personal details. Do not ask customers to change or remove a review, and do not review yourself or your competitors.
If you believe a review breaks these guidelines, use Report on it, or contact us with the address of your listing.
Listing a business
Do
- Use the business’s real, trading name and its real address and phone number.
- Choose the category that describes what the business mainly does.
- Keep opening hours and contact details up to date.
- List a business only if you own it or are authorised to manage it.
Do not
- Add keywords, phone numbers or offers to the business name.
- Create several listings for one location, or listings for places that do not exist.
- Pick a misleading category to appear in more searches.
- Claim a business you do not run, or impersonate another business.
New listings are checked before they go live. We may edit, reject or remove a listing that is inaccurate or misleading, and we will tell the person who submitted it why.
